Meet Diana Benjamin

NGP’s Principal, Diana Benjamin, is an experienced professional with a proven track record of providing strategic input and recommendations regarding diversity and economic equality programs through advocacy, implementation, utilization and monitoring. In her former role as Deputy Chief Diversity Officer in the Office of the New York City Comptroller, Diana provided oversight to ensure MWBE compliance of the agency’s procurements. She was instrumental in analyzing data that reflected for the Annual Comptroller’s ‘Making the Grade’ report on how 32 New York City’s Mayoral agencies spend with MWBEs, and provided recommendations aimed at strengthening the MWBE program. Additionally, Ms. Benjamin chaired the Comptroller’s Internal spend initiatives committee responsible for delivering innovative solutions to increase contract opportunities for M/WBEs in the Comptroller’s office. She collaborated with cross-functional teams that implemented innovative strategies and revised contract language with impediments that could potentially prevent an MWBE firm from bidding.

Diana has an invaluable, comprehensive understanding of the public procurement process at local, state and federal levels at every phase. Prior to the Comptroller’s office Diana served as M/WBE Officer and MWBE Compliance Analyst at NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services and NYC Department of Design and Construction respectively. In her role as MWBE Officer, she implemented the Agency’s MWBE program, developed best practices and managed the MWBE portfolio whereby she increased the contract utilization for Minority and Women-Owned Businesses by 24% during fiscal year 2016. As MWBE Compliance Analyst for the Department of Design and Construction, she managed the MWBE utilization on a portfolio valued at approximately $1 billion that consisted of public work contracts throughout the 5 boroughs. She also monitored compliance that included goal setting on several contracts from inception of procurement and throughout the project life cycle. Ultimately, she participated in pre-proposal, pre-construction and progress meetings where she discussed compliance policies and procedures at different stages of the project.

After more than a decade working in public service, Diana transitioned to independent entrepreneurial pursuits with the founding of New Genesis Pathfinder. As CEO, her focus was set on Diversity and Inclusion Consulting, Navigating Government procurement processes, Business coaching/Technical Assistance and Public Outreach and Engagement. Her experience as both entrepreneur and consultant has garnered her critical thinking, problem solving, logic skills and creativity to help her find long-term success. She has spent the last 2 years providing critical coaching and support services to businesses in the private sector using the expertise gained in prior public positions.

In addition to her work for New Genesis Pathfinder, Diana serves as an expert business coach for the Columbia University Grow Vendor Development Program, which assists minority women and locally owned (MWL) businesses by expanding their existing portfolio of business contracts with large clients. Notwithstanding, Diana has a strong corporate social responsibility which is manifested at Business Mentor New York where she serves as a volunteer business coach.

Ms. Benjamin’s extensive career in public service has played a key role in developing strategies, executing programs and policies to promote the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise(M/WBE) program engagement and utilization. She has led compliance and business development activities, training and also served as a subject matter expert and panelist at industry events.
